Colour Film at Acoustic Blend Cafe - Milton
: With songs that play like home movies rich in imagery and characters, Colour Film is the stage name of Hamilton, Ontarioâs Matthew de Zoete. Mixing a storytellerâs eye for detail with melodic pop hooks, he takes snapshots of everyday life to illuminate the underlying threads. Imagine Nick Drake cheering up a bit and working with Beck.
Balancing sincerity and perspective, Colour Filmâs lyrics open little windows onto wide vistas, shining a light on everything from old friends and new babies to waking up on the right side of the wrong bed.

Tell us a bit about your music and writing style.
I guess Iâd call it melodic pop/folk music. I think my writing follows the style of pop and singer-songwriter music from the 60s and 70s and is influenced by those approaches. A few years ago, I realized that I often write songs with a visual element â some characters, a plot or situation, a specific setting, some details that hopefully bring the song alive in a listenerâs mind. Almost like the song is a home movie in the mindâs eye. Sometimes itâs subconscious, sometimes itâs intentional, but it seems to be a recurring theme in how I write.
